Aboriginal ranger program funding

Expressions of Interest called last November for funding under the second round of the $20 million Aboriginal Ranger Program can be submitted to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions until March 15, 2019. 

The Aboriginal Ranger Program was developed by the State Government to create jobs, training and community development opportunities for Aboriginal people in regional and remote communities across Western Australia.

The first round of the program provided $8.45 million to 13 groups across the State, creating 85 new jobs and 80 training opportunities for Aboriginal people, including 47 female Aboriginal ranger positions.

Round 2 will see rangers employed to undertake land and sea management including conservation, cultural, tourism and education activities across a range of tenures. A total of $9 million will be available in the second round, for single or multi-year projects up to three years.

The program is available to Aboriginal organisations, including prescribed body corporates, native title representative bodies and Aboriginal body corporates where the land area of the project is located outside of the Perth metropolitan area.
