Kalbarri Skywalk project underway

The State Government’s world class Kalbarri Skywalk project will provide visitors with spectacular views of the rugged Murchison River Gorge and surrounding environment.

The two 100-metre-high skywalks with a connecting boardwalk between them will jut out dramatically 25 metres and 17 metres beyond the rim of the gorge at one of its highest points.

In a recent announcement, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) said a contract had been awarded to WA-based civil engineers Bocol Constructions.

The skywalks, about 40 kms from Kalbarri, are expected to be completed later this year. The $20 million project also includes improved road and tourism infrastructure.

Kalbarri National Park is located almost 500 kilometres north of Perth in the Mid-West region. The traditional owners of the area are the Nanda people, for whom the Murchison River holds cultural significance.

Figures from the Parks and Wildlife Service show that the Kalbarri National Park continues to be a popular destination with visits increasing by almost 100,000 over the past five years – from 306,058 in 2013-14 to 400,991 in 2017-18.
