Lotterywest grant for Swan River conservation efforts
A dedicated group of volunteers has been awarded a Lotterywest grant in a welcome boost to protect the Swan River.
The Swan River Estuary is a sanctuary for native wildlife including endangered species and migratory birds.
The Swan Estuary Reserves Action Group will use the $14,666 in funding to purchase a trailer and equipment to help its 90 volunteers, who carry out conservation work across more than six kilometres of the foreshore.
The group coordinates rehabilitation and revegetation projects including planting native species, weeding and soft erosion control measures, as well as educational programs.
The Swan Estuary Reserves Action Group was formed in 2010 to restore the habitat of three reserves in South Perth, Crawley and Melville. The foreshore work is delivered in partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and local governments.
