National app that could save your life

‘Emergency +’ is a national app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners, helping people to decide when to call 000 and assisting the caller to dial the right number in non-emergency situations anywhere in Australia.

The app uses a mobile phone’s GPS functionality so callers can provide emergency call-takers with their location information as determined by their smart phone.

‘Emergency+’ provides the caller with information on when to call Triple Zero i.e.:

* someone is seriously injured or in need of urgent medical help
* your life or property is being threatened
* you have just witnessed a serious accident or crime

The app also provides information on who to call in various non-emergency situations and includes SES and Police Assistance Line numbers as options, so non-emergency calls are made to the most appropriate number.

Important: While the ‘Emergency +’ app will use any phone network in an emergency, it doesn’t work without an active phone network, so it is not a replacement for a personal locator beacon. It does, however, provide users with an excellent emergency location device for the times they aren’t carrying a dedicated beacon and are close to civilisation.

The app is free of charge and can be downloaded from:
