New Mid-West reserves

Five new conservation reserves have been created near Mount Magnet in the Murchison region.

The Badimia conservation reserves totalling more than 114 hectares comprise parts of two former pastoral leases previously purchased by the State Government for conservation, and unallocated Crown land at Kirkalocka and White Wells.

The reserves contain Aboriginal sites and significant cultural and pastoral heritage values. The varied landscape, with significant wetlands, provides habitat for 563 flora species and 162 fauna species, including many threatened and priority species.

The area is also recognised for its rich wildflower displays in Spring.

The Badimia traditional owners are working collaboratively with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ Parks and Wildlife Service to create the reserves.
