Momentum is continuing to build for the WA Parks Foundation in 2017, with six new Park Ambassadors, including the new captain of the Fremantle Football Club, Nat Fyfe, coming on board recently to inspire people to appreciate and enjoy our parks.
Monthly Board meetings have focussed on securing funding, staff, volunteers and prioritising initial projects as well as looking ahead at risks and opportunities and working towards setting the budget for our first full financial year of operations.
A Strategic Priorities Panel has been established, chaired by Dr Tom Hatton PSM to advise the Board on project priorities. Panel members include Professor Lyn Beazley AO, Professor Stephen Hopper AC, Professor Ross Dowling OAM, Mr Chris Pye AM and Ms Ainslie de Vos as well as Colin Ingram representing Parks and Wildlife.
The Foundation has now been officially registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, being awarded a Registered Charity Tick. The Board is hopeful that its application for tax deductible status for the Foundation will be approved shortly.
WA Parks Foundation members and supporters are welcome to submit their ideas around how the Foundation can build a community voice to promote the benefits of spending time in parks, to raise money for important projects and programs that wouldn’t otherwise be possible, to recruit volunteers and to facilitate collaborations.
