Why visit Walyunga National Park

Endowed with rich Aboriginal mythology, tree-filled valleys and the cooling waters of the Swan River, Walyunga National Park is a popular picnic destination and an ideal spot to watch the annual white water event, the Avon Descent.

Tucked behind the Darling Scarp, covering both sides of a steep valley. Walyunga National Park covers 1,800 hectares of the Darling Range. To the east in the picturesque Avon Valley, the Avon River joins the Brockman River to form the Swan River which passes through the tree lined valley.

Archaeological evidence shows the area has been used by local Aboriginal people for more than 40,000 years. It is a place of great cultural significance and was the site of one of the largest known Aboriginal campsite around Perth, in use until the late 1800s.
