Explore: BirdLife Western Australia – Getting started in birdwatching: good for you, good for birds!
BirdLife Australia is Austalia’s largest member-based conservation organisation, working for more than a century to advocate for bird and bird habitat conservation.
Birding, or birdwatching, for the purpose of recreation and enjoyment, has been a popular pastime for well over a century. While a fairly common activity in the UK and USA, it is still growing in popularity in Australia.
At this event, you will hear from conservation scientist, Dr Rochelle Steven, as she explains why birding can bring a whole new dimension to your daily life but also add a fascinating element to your travels around Australia and the world.
Rochelle will describe what you need to get started on your birding journey and how you can take it further by contributing to valuable citizen science once you get the hang of identifying the hundreds of species to be found here in the Southwest.
Bring a notebook for jotting down ideas and a pair of binoculars if you have them.
Afternoon tea will be provided before a short birdwalk near the Eco Centre to get you started on the day!
