Urban forest projects to enhance Swan Canning Riverpark restoration

New urban forest restoration projects will be rolled out across the Swan Canning Riverpark over the next three years, supported by $925,000 in funding through the Urban Forest program.

Six local governments — the Cities of Gosnells, Armadale, Perth, Belmont and Bayswater, along with the Town of Bassendean — will partner with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to deliver targeted revegetation, weed control and habitat enhancement works. The program contributes up to two‑thirds of each project’s total cost, helping land managers meet urban canopy and biodiversity goals outlined in their strategic plans.

The Urban Forest program began in 2021 and has already supported 20 restoration projects, resulting in 41 hectares of weed control, 27 hectares of revegetation, and the planting of more than 500,000 native plants across the Riverpark and surrounding landscapes. The program enables continued improvements to ecosystem health, foreshore resilience and community amenity across the Swan Canning Riverpark. Learn more here.
