Smartreka’s value recognised in awards program
The WA Parks Foundation’s Smartreka mapping initiative was pleased to be an Encouraging Participation finalist in the 2025 Outdoor Industry Awards which recognise excellence, innovation, and leadership across WA’s vibrant outdoor sector.
The awards celebrate the individuals, organisations, and programs that inspire participation, enhance safety, and contribute to the growth and sustainability of outdoor recreation, tourism, and education in our state.
Smartreka, developed by the WA Parks Foundation in partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, is a pioneering digital mapping initiative designed to make outdoor exploration more accessible, safe, and engaging.
Optimised for smartphones and tablets, Smartreka maps use built-in GPS to plot the user’s real-time location and provide detailed information on campgrounds, picnic areas, walk trails (including classifications), lookouts, car parks, swimming areas, wheelchair-accessible facilities, Wi-Fi access, roads, tracks, and important safety details.
Maps can be downloaded in advance using the free Avenza Maps app while internet access is available. Once downloaded, they remain accessible without a network connection or roaming charges, making them particularly valuable in remote or regional areas.
Congratulations to the Munda Bindi Trail Foundation, winner of the Encouraging Participation category and to all winners in the WA Outdoor Industry Awards 2025.
