Explore: Bird Watching Of Lesmurdie Brook with Darling Range Branch
Join us for a lovely bird watching excursion around the Upper Lesmurdie Brook in the Mundy Regional Park in Lesmurdie. The leaders, Mike and Rachel, have been conducting a bird survey over the past year around the brook and will be leading the walk.
There will be water in the brook and some of the local birds will be nesting. Red-tailed Black Cockatoos, Grey Fantails, Australian Ring-neck Parrots, Striated Pardalotes and more have been seen nesting in the area during the survey period.
It is a pretty area with the bush predominantly Marri and Jarrah woodland with typical understorey. Unfortunately there have been quite a few vegetation deaths in the heatwaves but the birds continue and there are dense sets of reeds along some sections of the brook.
The area is looked after by a superb and very active group: The Friends of Upper Lesmurdie Falls who are weeding the area, propagating plants to rehabilitate the bush, and adding facilities. They provide seating at key points along the walk as well as signage explaining some of the indigenous perspective on the natural history.
