Explore: Discover the Australian Sikh Heritage Trail at Ardenia Park, Riverton
The Australian Sikh Heritage Trail in Adenia Park recognises and celebrates the Australian Sikh community’s history and contribution to our state. Adenia Park is the first site where Western Australian Sikhs were legally allowed to perform cremations, a very important part of Sikh culture. To Whadjuk people the Canning River is known as Djalgarro beeliar, which was a significant source of food, water and resources. Whadjuk people would often camp near the river and as a result, many artefacts of Whadjuk heritage have been found in the Adenia Park area. The Canning River Regional Park is a highly significant area of remnant natural vegetation on the Canning River and Adenia Park is part of the River Journeys project.
