At this year’s Scribblers Family Festival, the Sustainability Area will offer a variety of hands-on activities, including an exciting workshop focused on the importance of trees as habitats for wildlife. In this workshop, participants will explore how trees provide essential shelter, food, and nesting spaces for many creatures.

Children will be invited to express their creativity by using clay to sculpt their own creature that could live in or around a tree. They’ll learn about how trees support wildlife and think about the many ways creatures rely on them for survival, from finding food to building homes. Adding a cultural layer to the activity, participants will also use a clay paint similar to ochre, traditionally used by Indigenous peoples in art and ceremony. This offers a meaningful opportunity to learn about the connection to the land, or ‘Country,’ and how it is expressed through art.
After creating their clay creatures, participants will place them in specific areas around a tree, considering where their creatures might eat, hide, hunt, sleep, or nest. This creative process not only fosters artistic expression but also encourages deeper reflection on the interconnectedness of nature and the role of environmental stewardship.
The Sustainability Area at Scribblers Family Festival is an engaging space where children and families can connect creativity with important environmental lessons, ensuring fun-filled learning for all ages.
