Experiencing the Kimberley like never before
The Great Kimberley Wilderness, a 35-minute immersive virtual reality documentary being screened at WA Museum sites transports viewers to one of the world’s most astounding landscapes.
The production filmed in 360-degree 3D format, takes audiences flying over the edge of thundering waterfalls, swooping across superb coastlines, and venturing deep, into the heart of the region’s ancient interior.
Guided by scientists and Traditional Owners, narrated by Luke Hemsworth (Westworld, Thor: Love and Thunder) and produced by award-winning Australian production company White Spark Pictures, this outstanding documentary enables audiences to explore the vibrantly striped domes and majestic gorges of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park, get up close to saltwater crocodiles and travel back 350 million years to the Devonian Reef.
“Many people will never have the opportunity to visit the Kimberley, so this will give them a chance to experience one of the world’s greatest natural and cultural treasures,” said, WA Museum CEO, Alec Coles OBE.
“We have been proud to work with White Spark Pictures to launch this extraordinary experience at four of our museums simultaneously, allowing audiences to ‘visit’ the remote areas of the Kimberley in unison – but without the need for a four-wheel drive vehicle!”
The Great Kimberley Wilderness is screening across four of the WA Museum’s public sites (WA Museum Boola Bardip, Great Southern, Geraldton and Goldfields) for a five-month season, ending 28 April 2025.
