Support for river care projects in the Swan Canning catchment

Weed control along Jane Brook in John Forrest National Park to promote natural regeneration has attracted support in the Community Rivercare program’s latest round of funding.

The $20,000 grant has been awarded to the Friends of John Forrest National Park, a dedicated and knowledgeable group of volunteers having an impact on weed removal and encouraging regrowth of native vegetation.

Fourteen community volunteer groups will share in a total of $255,055 to assist with the improvement of waterway health in the Swan Canning Catchment. The funding will enable weed control, foreshore revegetation and wetland restoration work across key locations, with habitat improvement for birds and other species dependent on waterways one of the priorities.

Grants of between $3,000 and $20,000 for projects running up to two years were made available as part of this latest round. The program’s next round will make grants of up to $100,000 available for one-year projects.
