Mimbi Caves campground expansion in the North West
A major expansion of the Mimbi Caves Campground in the Kimberley is opening soon, increasing capacity to 35 campsites and making it even easier for visitors to experience one of the region’s outstanding cultural and natural attractions.
The upgraded campground, known by its Gooniyandi name Jarlarloo Riwi — with Jarlarloo meaning Coolamon tree and Riwi meaning camp — now features a new amenities block, camp kitchen and additional campsites. The improvements will provide greater comfort for visitors while supporting the local Mimbi community through sustainable tourism.
Nestled at the foot of the Emmanuel Ranges and just a short drive from the Great Northern Highway, Jarlarloo Riwi offers visitors the opportunity to stay on Country, connect with Aboriginal culture and contribute directly to the local economy.
While staying at the campground, visitors can join an Indigenous-guided tour of the nearby Mimbi Caves, one of Australia’s most spectacular and culturally significant geological sites.
Deeply significant to the Gooniyandi people, the caves are also home to one of the world’s most important Devonian fossil sites, making them a must-see destination for anyone travelling through the Kimberley.
