Reflecting on our unique forest heritage
The Golden Valley Tree Park at Balingup was a beautiful setting for a recent public presentation by distinguished neuroscientist and educator Professor Lyn Beazley AO FAA FTSE.
Her informative and engaging talk, Forests – Distant Past to Future Challenges, was wide-ranging in its themes of forest evolution, regional biodiversity, direct and indirect pressures such as climate change and the criticality of protecting our globally important forest heritage.
As Western Australia’s Chief Scientist from 2006 to 2013, Lyn advised governments on science and innovation, worked closely with industry and was a science ambassador in Australia and internationally. She was WA Australian of the Year in 2015.
Lyn is a WA Parks Ambassador and a member of the WA Parks Foundation’s Strategic Advisory Panel.

The Golden Valley Tree Park is a heritage-listed site begun over one hundred years ago. The sixty-hectare landscaped park set in the picturesque hills of Balingup is a great place for short walks amongst some of the loveliest rural countryside in the heart of the South West.
It is WA’s largest arboretum.
