Astro Rocks Fest a winner!

The WA Parks Foundation was well represented at the 2021 Astro Rocks Fest at Mount Magnet and feedback confirms that this popular event gets better year by year.

Distinguished plant conservationist, Professor Stephen Hopper AC who is a Park Ambassador was a contributor. With Michael Wingate from the Geological Survey of WA, he provided a tour of The Granites “Life on Granite Outcrops: Layers of Meaning”.

Other Park Ambassadors present were Emeritus Professor Ross Dowling AM who is Chair of the Australian GeoParks Network, Tracy Shea (Executive Officer, Forum Advocating Cultural and Eco-Tourism), FACET founder Pat Barblett AM and Astro-Rocks coordinator, Cr Karen Morrissey OAM, a passionate advocate of geo tourism and member of Geoparks WA.

The 3-day Mount Magnet Astro Rocks Fest celebrated  the ancient rock formations of the area, awesome night skies and cultural connections. With displays, night sky tours and presentations by experts in the fields of geology, including associated biodiversity and cultural aspects the event offered special insights into this unique Murchison GeoRegion.
