Christmas Message from the Chair

Over the past year in our monthly on-line newsletter, in talks and in social media we have shared many stories on themes relevant to our aims of supporting conservation and encouraging people to experience the wonders of WA’s biodiverse national parks and reserves.

Some of these such as Smartreka mapping, Spring into Parks and the Nature Connection Excursion Series for schools have been about WA Parks Foundation projects and initiatives, including those progressed in association with our community, government or corporate partners.

Other topics have highlighted the contribution of external organisations and their people in areas such as flora and fauna research, citizen science opportunities, tourism, volunteering and cultural events.

Creating community links is a key factor in the work of the Foundation to increase understanding and appreciation of the State’s national land and marine parks and encourage visitation. We continue to make good progress with this outreach and the support and involvement of our partnering organisations, our members and others in the public and private sectors is much appreciated.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we particularly value the contribution of Park Ambassadors who give their time and share their knowledge and experience to help achieve our goals.  Special thanks are due to those giving their time to serve on a voluntary basis on the WA Parks Foundation Board and its committees as well as other roles.

While the current economic climate has created challenges, we are proud of what the Foundation has achieved in 2023 and we look forward to the New Year with further opportunities being explored and projects developed. Our Annual Report has more details and can be accessed here.

If you would like to help the Foundation to make a difference, please find more information here.

Thank you for your support and I extend to you and your loved ones my best wishes for a happy Christmas and for the New Year. May it be a wonderful year for you.

Best wishes,

Hon Kerry Sanderson AC CVO
