Funding available to help protect WA wildlife from bird flu
Up to $200,000 is available for community-led projects to strengthen Western Australia’s wildlife resilience against H5 bird flu. The Bird Flu Wildlife Resilience Grant is now open, providing an important funding opportunity for organisations working on wildlife rehabilitation, biosecurity, habitat protection and natural resource management.
Eligible incorporated not-for-profit organisations include wildlife rehabilitation groups, Aboriginal community organisations and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporates, Recognised Biosecurity Groups and Natural Resource Management (NRM) groups.
Funding can support practical activities such as purchasing quarantine and rehabilitation equipment, PPE and animal-care supplies, veterinary services, biosecurity and quarantine infrastructure, staff and volunteer training, permanent aviaries and other structures, as well as habitat restoration and feral animal control.
The funding is intended to support longer-term, community-based projects that help protect native wildlife and improve preparedness for, and response to, H5 bird flu. Applications close at 12 noon AWST on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
