World Environment Day – June 5

Marine ecosystems worldwide are affected by human-made refuse and much of it is plastic, coming from both land and sea-based sources. Image credit: Pinterest
Plastic pollution permeates every corner of the planet. Approximately 11 million tonnes of plastic enters the ocean every year. That’s the equivalent of us dumping 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic into the world’s oceans, rivers, and lakes every single day (UN Environment Programme 2025).
World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action to tackle plastic pollution.
By drawing inspiration from nature and showcasing real-world solutions, the campaign is encouraging individuals, organisations, industries and governments to adopt sustainable practices that drive systemic change.
